The Distribution of Trace Elements during Differentia- Tion of the Mt. Wellington Dolerite Sill
نویسنده
چکیده
Edwards (1942), in a broad chemical and mineralogical study of dolerites in Tasmania, found variations in composition within the sills and dykes examined. He attributed these chang>es to fractional crystallization and gravitative differentiation in the cooling magma of the sills, similar to that which is postulated to have occurred in the Skaergaard intrusion of East Greenland and the Palisade sill of New Jersey. The comprehensive study of the distribution of trace elements in the Skaergaard intrusive by Wager and Mitchell (1951) has been a notable contribution to the geochemistry of these elements. Wilson 0950) studied the distribution of some trace elements in the Mt. Wellington sill using a semi-quantitative spectographic method and found some broad trends in composition with depth in the sill which he attributed to differentiation.

Geologic and pedologic controls are the main factors determining the behavior of elements in natural soil environments. In order to assess the role of these factors on content and distribution of selected major and trace elements in soil, six parent materials including: phyllite, tonalite, periditite, dolerite, shale and limestone were selected in Fuman-Masule region. Soil genesis and developme...
متن کاملThe Cryoplanation of Mount Wellington
Present morphology of the Mt. Wellington summit area can be interpreted in terms of a system of cryoplanation, which operated during the Pleistocene, but bas now ceased. This involved the rapid frost shattering of exposed dolerite and the removal of this and previously weathered material by mass movement over slopes as low as 30 • Periglacial processes of land reduction were probably widespread...
متن کاملDistribution of trace elements in coal and coal fly ash and their recovery with mineral processing practices: A review
Today coal is among the most important energy sources. In order to meet the world's energy demands, low-calorie lignite with a high ash content is generally used in the large capacity coal-fired thermal power plants. As a result of coal firing, wastes such as fly ash, slag, and flue gas are also produced. Subsequently, toxic trace elements within coal are transferred to wastes such as slag, fl...

The RoudMajan kaolin deposit is located about 35 km northwest of Torbat-e- Heydarieh city, Khorasan Razavi Province, in the Great Kavir Block subzone. Field evidence and laboratories results indicate that this deposit is genetically associated with the alteration of basaltic andesite rocks (Lower Eocene). According to the microscopic evidence and various analytical techniques (XRD, SEM-EDS, FE-...

Biglar Permo-Triassic bauxite deposit is located in ~15 km northwest of Abgarm, southwest of Ghazvin province, west of central Iran. It consists of 8 stratiform and discontinuous bauxite lenses lying along the contact of Ruteh (Permian) and Elika (Triassic) carbonate formations. Petrographically, the bauxite ores exhibit collomorphic-fluidal, pseudo-breccia, pseudo-porphyritic, panidio-morphic-...
